We strongly believe that the startup speed will be faster in the future, and we’re already seeing great improvements all over the place. While, as outlined above, the startup speed of a native extension was superior to that of WebAssembly, the runtime speed was similar and enough to render PDF documents, even on cheaper hardware.Īs our WebAssembly bet for our Web product turned out to be a great success, we decided to go with WebAssembly for our Electron SDK as well. Since our PDF engine doesn’t require low-level OS APIs (as such, it can also be used on the web with our Web PDF SDK), we needed to make sure we made the proper decision for our customers. When working on our Electron PDF SDK, we evaluated both the native extension and the WebAssembly approach and compared the results. For a quick glimpse of the current stage, consider reading up on optimizing WebAssembly startup time. But improvements in this area are underway, and we’re certain that the startup time will vastly improve over the course of the next few months. This is mainly because the WebAssembly intermediate format must be compiled to the target architecture before it can run natively. The biggest drawback of WebAssembly versus the native extensions approach is that it takes longer to start a WebAssembly module. Since Electron 3.0.0 comes with Chrome 66, we can rely on its WebAssembly engine to run high computational work with maximum performance, even in your Electron app. WebAssembly can be used as a compilation target for most native programming languages (C, C++, or even Rust) and allows you to run high-performance code in a browser. If you’ve never heard of WebAssembly, I highly recommend checking out our introductory blog post. Thankfully, there exists an alternative to using native extensions in Electron with none of the drawbacks outlined above: WebAssembly - a portable, binary instruction format supported by all major browsers. This could put your app under increased security risk. Native extensions have full access to the OS API. If you’re running into this problem, we suggest you have a look at the fantastic prebuild project. For your Electron app, this means you’ll have to put in additional effort to always compile to all target platforms. Native code always needs to be compiled to the platform it’s used to run on. If you, for example, use a low-level OS API to achieve specific optimizations, there’s a very high probability that this API isn’t present on other platforms. It’s super simple to port native modules for using them inside your Electron app, but compiling to native also has some downsides:Īlthough there are several packages that increase the portability of your C++ code for use within Electron, this code will never be as portable as plain JavaScript. Voilà! We’ve successfully run our own native module in Electron. native-increment').increment ĭocument.querySelector(' #result').innerHTML = increment( 1336) native-increment') ĭocument.querySelector(' #result').innerHTML = increment( 1336) var increment = require('. Such a function would look like the following when written in plain JavaScript:Ĭonst = require('. To demonstrate the use of native modules, we’ll write a simple package that adds one to the number passed in as an argument. We can require the native extension inside our JavaScript code and communicate via the interface we set up. Using native modules is straightforward, as we’ll see in the example below. To compile the code, we make use of node-gyp, a cross-platform command-line tool for compiling native modules using the GYP project. These modules are special npm packages that can contain C/C++ code and will compile to the target architecture upon installation. Native Modules in ElectronĮlectron has first-class support for native Node.js modules (also called native addons). The source code for the following examples is available on GitHub. This article provides a brief overview of the available options. In the past few years, it has been adopted by major companies in the tech industry, including GitHub, Facebook, Microsoft, and Slack.Īlthough Electron comes with access to the entire npm ecosystem, sometimes your application requires the use of native code, either to have direct access to the APIs of your operating system, or to be able to run tasks that require a lot of computing power.įor our Electron PDF library, we evaluated multiple approaches to bringing our high-performance PDF engine to this platform. Electron is a powerful open source framework that allows development of cross-platform desktop GUI applications with JavaScript, HTML, and CSS. So my rule (3.4*distance*machine epsilon for single/double precision) gives a value of 4cm worst-case accuracy for single precision between two points/vertices at 99,999.99 distance. In other words, most of the time you will get 1cm or so accuracy, but occasionally it will be 4cm. On top of that, there is the magnification of spatial resolution base error due mainly to multiplications (if you multiply a number by 10, the error is multiplied by 10). Although I use this rule, magnification tends to overwhelm it and it hard to predict when you only write some of the code: unity may contribute more than your code.įor example, I find the Unity reparenting operation generates noticeable error in the transform value. By observing this error at a distance of > 10^11 (near an average Mars orbit), the reparenting magnification + whatever is done in my scripts, is around 45 times what my rule predicts. I've just been facing a few practical problems right now that have only barely been adressed here: How do I get serious collision physics to work with a continous floating origin (CFO) setup? I'm sorry for Necroing this, I saw this thread and found it very helpful for programming my space game. There've been code suggestions for raycast collision detections and that works well enough for frontal collisions. #EAZYDRAW INDEPENDENT SCALE NOT AVAILABLE CODE# #EAZYDRAW INDEPENDENT SCALE NOT AVAILABLE CODE#īut what about hits that aren't directly frontal, but where my spaceships collides with something at the sides?ĭo you know if there's some elegant solution to detect such hits? I've bee trying to use the detect collision function from rigidbodies and it sort of works, but there's a major problem. They are needed for the quest to recycle 30 Cards. I would suggest not recycling them until you finish the questline, or until you want to upgrade that awesome card you get (a purple one for example). The Giggitywatt cards are an uncommon recycle only card, that give you 5 points for upgrades. So lets talk about recycling and upgrading cards. It's a horrible system and they need to fix it. In the meantime you have people playing along side these afk players in the group, that you can't kick until the rumble is over, that are decimating your chances of getting better rewards. Not really worth the time imo but, it can be done. So yes, even if you afk farm it, you could get _something_ out of the game. Epic stones, in multiples of 1,000, are used to buy a random epic (blue) card. That is enough to get Tier 17 which is 500 Coins and 200 Epic Stones. the guild would accumulate 45,000 points. So if a 50 person active guild that has new players, loses every single battle, in the 6 days of the rumble with 3 matches per day. if a player loses all 10 matches, they will give 50 points to the groups score. In our rumbles this week, we have averaged 12 players in each battle. Our guild has 50 members, but right now 45 are active. So between the start of the rumble, 5 players stopped playing. So that gives you a 30 minute window between rumbles to do guild management every week. Each guild can only have 50 players, and you cannot kick players from the guild once a rumble starts. But this only works if the players in the guild actually work in the Rumble!. The rumble works great if you get into a guild that does something useful with their life. And beyond that, I have been learning as many combos as I can to progress, while trying to complete the main mission quests to get free epic / legendary (blue and purple) card packs. So far, I have upgraded all of the cards that I have started with, recycled a lot of uncommon cards to do so. So I have just hit one week exactly of playing this game, and I have about 20 hours of actual in-game play-time. Recycling to upgrade the important cards.New Players so they can play/participate in game modes. There are only 3 purposes of common cards in this game. The important thing to know about this, is that while the grey cards are excellent for starter decks, they are easily outmatched within 3 days of playing. After opening around 30 packs now, I have gotten about 5 rare items from each single pack, and a lot of Giggitywatt cards (will explain these later). So the 1,000 Coin pack gives you a random card that is Grey (common) or a potential to be Green (rare). So the two options that are 'Coin' based are really only one, and the other is a Sanity check so you don't have to constantly open packs all day long. The amount varies depending on whether you win or lose, and also how high you go in the ladder for each (or level in the Adventure mode). So the Coins are the free currency you get from doing Adventure (story), Arena (pvp) and Rumble (GvG) modes in the game. Now, I am not going to explain what each one gives, but I will explain what the FREE one gives, and you will note that everything else is above that. Buy Max -> Multiples of 1000 Coins (Changes depending how many coins you have). The Shop allows you to purchase packs of card ala-every-other-CCG. So obviously, as this game is deck based, the micro transactions are going to be Pay To Win. You only get 10 shots to get +100 points, so if you even take 1 damage, it is reduced by 1. The better you do against an opponent, the closer to 1000 points per round you get. These points are based on how badly you beat your opponent. The winner gets moved up the ladder based on how many points they gain each round. deck battle, where you are pitted against a guild to test each others decks. The entire goal is to increase your decks power so much, that you can get into the top 25 in the Rumble! The Rumble! is a guild vs. This is a Collectible Card Game, featuring your favorite characters and objects from Family Guy, Futurama, American Dad, Bob's Burgers and King of the Hill. Welcome to my review of Animation Throwdown: The Quest For Cards that is available on Steam / iOS / Android. It allowed me to migrate all of my movies, music, and picture to my big Mac. I am NOT the kind of person to leave a 5 star review unless I am downright amazed by something. Love Apple products but sometimes their proprietary practices get out of date and silly. No matter what it saved me the headache, money, and travel time of having to go buy a stupid AppleTV. Looks like the Free version does everything I will need, but I am almost inclined to buy the paid version just as a way to support these guys. Then from my T V Screen (did not touch the laptop from here on) I chose Serviio as the Source, picked a video from the TV folder that popped up, immediately found all the videos accessible from the TV Screen, used the TV controls to start the video - PERFECT! This is a GREAT product. Then in Serviio's main screen I browsed to a folder with Videos in it, and added it to the media folders shared with Serviio. Once I made that new Manually Set Wi-Fi Connection and Manually set the IP Address to match the Serviio IP, then set the Subnet Mask to match my main WiFi connection's Subnet, as well as the same Router IP, and left everything else on "Automatic", then Serviio popped up right away on my Samsung Smart TV. My TV still could not see Serviio and then I figured out that all I had to do was go into my Network settings on my Mac (OS X 10.9.5) and Manually create a new Wi-Fi connection with the IP Address listed by Serviio in their startup screen where it showed my TV. Took me 10-15 minutes to browse "How-To's" online but Serviio found my TV immediately, so all I had to do was pick the profile of my TV in the included list (easy-peasy), which seems to be very important (don't just leave it on "Generic"). Kind of nervous when I started - not a total newb, but not crazy computer savvy either.
